Much of my hands-on learning and love for historic preservation came from projects I have worked on with the Museum of the Mountain West in Colorado. The Museum sites on a ten acre site and replicates life on the American frontier through preservation, restoration, and exhibition of historical buildings and artifacts.
More than 20 buildings have been relocated and restored to the museum grounds, or constructed using reclaimed materials of the same period (circa 1880-1910). During my long partnership with the Museum I have been a part of every stage in the development from digging and poring foundations to brick-laying and exhibition design.
The largest of the projects I have worked on have been the relocation and restoration of the German-Lutheran Church from 1913 and the design and construction of the two story Stott Hotel. This structure was built using reclaimed materials and load bearing masonry.
Currently with the museum I am developing a new masterplan which will include the addition of two more historic structures and landscaping.
